Handmade Minature Candles…
February 26th, 2013

Have you seen another post of mine called How to clean your candle jars, tried and tested? It explains how best to get the last remains of wax out the bottom of your finished yankee candle or other candle jar. I tried out various methods from the internet and showed you all what worked best. Hop over to that post to find out more!
But then I wondered, what am I going to do with all this leftover wax. It comes out clean from the jar in a solid piece and still smells as lovely as it did in the jar so it’s hard to just throw it away. I don’t let go easily, especially to colourful pieces of wax. Wierd, I know. So I decided to do this…

That’s right! I made teeny weeny candles and they look super cute. They would be great as presents and the best thing about them is they cost next to nothing to make!! All you need is:

  • Left over wax from your old candles
  • Small candle wicks (can be found at craft shops like hobbycraft, on ebay, on amazon etc)
  • Clean condiment jars (normally pocketed from a hotel breakfast buffet)

My cousin and my Nan joined in with this project. All you have to do is melt the wax in a small pan on the hob and pour it into the small condiment jars. Once the wax has started to cool and harden push the wick down to the bottom of the jar. Leave in a cool place for an hour or two to completely set. Et voila!

What a clever and frugal idea. I love miniature things (being only 5’1″, mini’s make me feel like a giant). Next time I’m at a hotel, I’ll have to remember and keep my jam jar.

If you haven’t already, I’d love if you’d come join my How To Tuesday link party, too.
